How the fuel logbook works

Fill your tank completely and add that fill-up first. Next time you fill up, enter the odometer reading and the fuel you added. The logbook divides the fuel used by the distance driven between two full-tank fills, which is the most reliable way to measure real fuel economy.

If you only top up part of the tank, untick “I filled the tank completely”. That fuel is still counted, and the economy figure appears at the next full fill.

L/100 km and mpg

Metric fuel economy is litres per 100 km: lower is better. US fuel economy is miles per US gallon: higher is better. Our gas price converter handles the price side of the same unit difference.

Is my fuel log private?

Yes. Your entries are stored in this browser’s local storage and are never sent to Fuel Route Guide. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, removes them, so download the CSV if you want a backup.

Why does my economy differ from the official rating?

Official ratings come from standard lab tests. Real figures change with winter driving, short trips, heavy loads, roof racks and speed. A few months of fill-ups gives a far better picture than a single tank.
