Vehicle recall check: look up car recalls
Choose your vehicle’s year, make and model to see safety recalls published by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Canadian drivers should also check Transport Canada’s database.
Find recalls for your vehicle
NHTSA DATACheck by VIN for your exact vehicle
A year, make and model search shows recalls that may apply to that model. Whether a repair is still outstanding on your vehicle depends on its 17-character vehicle identification number (VIN), found on the driver’s side of the dashboard and on your registration. Enter it on NHTSA’s recall page for US vehicles, or contact the manufacturer or a dealer.
Recalls for Canadian vehicles
Canada runs its own recall system. Vehicles sold in Canada can have different recall campaigns from US models, even with the same name. Search Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database, and ask your manufacturer to check your VIN.
Are recall repairs free?
Safety recall repairs are normally done free of charge by an authorized dealer. Contact the dealer with the recall number shown in the results, and follow any “park it” or “park outside” warning immediately.
Why does a fuel guide have a recall check?
Several recalls involve fuel pumps, fuel lines and other parts of the fuel system. Keeping your vehicle safe is part of planning any trip, along with knowing your trip fuel cost.
