GasBuddy app: official download links and how to use it
The GasBuddy app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Fuel Route Guide does not host the app or any APK file. The links below go straight to GasBuddy’s official store listings, so you get the genuine, up-to-date version.
Download the official GasBuddy app
iPhone and iPad: open the App Store listing for your country. In Canada it is listed as “GasBuddy: Find Cheap Gas”; in the US it is “GasBuddy: Find & Pay for Gas”. Both listings show GasBuddy Organization Inc as the developer and, when checked on 4 November 2026, required iOS 15.5 or later.
Android: open the Google Play listing, “GasBuddy: Find & Pay for Gas”. Its developer is shown as PDI Software, Inc., with a link to gasbuddy.com. Install it from Google Play so it receives automatic updates.
Check the developer name before you tap install. A look-alike app with a similar icon is not the same thing as the official GasBuddy app.
Skip unofficial GasBuddy APK files
Searches for “GasBuddy APK” often lead to unofficial download sites. An app file installed from outside Google Play may be outdated or modified, and it will not update itself. Fuel Route Guide does not offer APK downloads. The Google Play link above is the safe way to get the Android app.
Is the GasBuddy app free?
Yes. Both stores list the GasBuddy app at no cost. The iOS listing also shows in-app purchases: GasBuddy sells optional paid memberships, GasBuddy+ Plus and Premium, that add fuel discounts and other perks. You do not need a membership to search gas prices. Check GasBuddy’s own site for current membership prices and terms.
What the GasBuddy app does
According to its store listing, the app’s prices are reported by drivers, whom GasBuddy calls “GasBuddies”. You can search for any fuel type, including diesel, and sort stations by price, location or amenities such as restrooms and restaurants. Reporting a price or reviewing a station helps other drivers. The US listing also highlights paying for gas through the app.
How to use the GasBuddy app to find cheap gas
- Set your location. Allow location access, or type a city or postal code if the app’s estimate is off.
- Pick your fuel type. Compare regular with regular and diesel with diesel.
- Sort by price, then read the report time. A price reported this morning is more useful than one from yesterday.
- Count the detour. A cheaper station out of your way can cost more in extra driving than it saves. Our trip fuel cost calculator works it out.
- Confirm at the pump. Use the price displayed at the station, and report it to help the next driver.
Our GasBuddy near me guide and GasBuddy map guide go through these checks in more detail.
If a Costco or Sam’s Club station you expected isn’t in the list, GasBuddy’s help says filters and location can hide club stations at first. Reset the filters, then zoom the map to that area. Source.
Find gas along a route in the app
Sorting by distance from where you’re sitting doesn’t help much on a road trip. The app’s Search Along Route feature looks for stations between you and a destination. GasBuddy’s help article gives the steps: tap Find Gas, tap the direction button in the search bar, enter your destination and pick one of the suggested routes. Those routes can’t be customised at the moment, so check that the one you pick is the road you’ll actually drive. Source: Search Along Route.
For the fuel bill of the whole trip, GasBuddy has a separate Trip Cost Calculator, and our own trip fuel cost calculator works in km and litres or miles and US gallons.
Flash Deals: read the conditions first
Some stations show time-limited offers in the app. GasBuddy’s help centre says Flash Deals (formerly Deal Alerts) appear on the Find Gas screen with a teal banner and a lightning bolt icon, and once you activate one you have four hours to fill up at that station. Purchases outside that window, or paid in cash, don’t count. Source: Flash Deals. If an offer means driving somewhere you wouldn’t otherwise go, count the extra distance before activating it.
Is GasBuddy accurate?
It depends on how recently someone reported the price. GasBuddy’s help centre says most of its prices come from volunteer spotters. Reports made in the app count for more than reports made on the website, since app users are more likely to be at the station, and a price from someone who isn’t signed in only shows if there’s no current price. GasBuddy also asks people to report the correct price when they spot a wrong one. Source: reporting prices.
In practice: a price reported an hour ago at a busy station is usually a good guide, while one from yesterday may be out of date. Treat the app as a shortlist and the pump as the final word. If the pump doesn’t match, reporting it helps the next driver.
Does the GasBuddy app work in Canada?
Yes. The app covers stations across Canada and the US, and the Canadian App Store has its own listing. Canadian prices are shown in cents per litre and US prices in dollars per gallon, so convert both before comparing across the border; the fuel price converter does it with your own exchange rate. To compare prices in your area, find your city guide.
What if the GasBuddy app is not working?
Update the app from the App Store or Google Play, check your connection and confirm that location access is turned on. If a station shows no price, it may simply have no recent report for your fuel type. For login, payment or account problems, use GasBuddy’s help centre; Fuel Route Guide cannot access or fix GasBuddy accounts.
