Gas prices in Lima, Ohio: match fuel type as well as the Ohio location
Two mix-ups cause most bad Lima fuel comparisons. One is the place: Ohio also has a North Lima, near Youngstown, nowhere near Allen County. The other is the product: a low diesel number is no use to a car that runs on regular, and the reverse is just as true. We don’t show live prices, but this page will help you compare the right fuel at the right Lima.
Make sure it’s the right Lima
Lima is the Allen County city on I-75 and US 30 (the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce describes its location along both). North Lima is a separate community in Mahoning County, near Youngstown on the other side of the state. Search suggestions for “GasBuddy Lima” include North Lima, so a careless search can center the map nowhere near you. Add “Ohio” and, better still, a Lima ZIP code.
What’s in the price at a Lima pump, for gas and diesel
Gasoline and diesel are taxed differently, which is one reason their prices don’t move together.
| Tax (cents per gallon) | Gasoline | Diesel |
|---|---|---|
| Federal (EIA) | 18.4 | 24.4 |
| Ohio, standard rate | 38.5 | 47 |
| Ohio, Oct 4, 2026 to Jan 2, 2027 | 0.0001 | 0.0001 |
The Ohio rows come from the Ohio Department of Taxation’s guidance on the 90-day motor fuel tax holiday under House Bill 519, which also says retailers must pass the full savings on to customers at the pump.
Here’s what that does to the gap between the two fuels. At standard rates, diesel carries 14.5 cents a gallon more tax than gasoline (71.4 against 56.9 cents). During the holiday, with Ohio’s share almost zero, the difference shrinks to the 6-cent federal gap. So if you’re used to a certain spread between diesel and regular in Lima, expect it to look different until January 2, 2027, and then shift again. As of November 2026, the holiday is in effect.
Where Lima drivers usually fill up
I-75 and US 30 are the two big highways serving Lima. For through traffic, the stations at the interchange you’re already using are the natural baseline. Club fuel centers are another option people search for: Sam’s Club lists a Lima fuel center at 1150 Greely Chapel Road (checked 4 November 2026; recheck before relying on it). Check which fuels it sells and whether you have access before comparing it with an ordinary station.
Using GasBuddy Lima Ohio results
- Search with “Lima, Ohio” or a Lima ZIP code so North Lima and other Limas stay out of the results.
- Choose your fuel first. Set the product (regular, premium or diesel) before you look at prices. A station’s lowest number may be for a product you don’t need.
- Look at the whole menu. If you need diesel, a station with cheap regular and no diesel is not a candidate at all.
- Check report times, especially around January 2, 2027, when the holiday is due to end and prices may jump.
- Start with current reports on the official GasBuddy website, then confirm the price on the pump.
Lima worked example: is the extra drive worth it?
This is a hypothetical example, not a quoted Lima price. You drive a diesel pickup, you’re buying 15 US gallons, and a station a few minutes off I-75 posts diesel 12 cents per gallon below the one at your exit. Going there adds 4 miles.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Gross saving | 15 × 12/100 | US$1.80 |
| Extra driving fuel cost | 4 extra miles ÷ 20 mpg × US$3.40 per gallon | US$0.68 |
| Net saving before time and other costs | Gross saving − extra fuel | US$1.12 |
The short detour costs about 38% of the saving, so you keep US$1.12. That’s a reasonable stop. But if the 12-cent gap had been between one station’s regular price and the other’s diesel price, there would be no saving to calculate. Put in your own numbers with the trip fuel cost calculator.
Is diesel cheaper during Ohio’s gas tax holiday?
The holiday removes Ohio’s tax from diesel (normally 47 cents) as well as gasoline (normally 38.5 cents), so diesel loses more state tax per gallon. That doesn’t guarantee a lower pump price, because tax is only part of what a station charges. Compare current posted diesel prices rather than assuming.
Where is the lowest gas price in Lima today?
We don’t track live prices, so we can’t name a station. The quickest route is recent GasBuddy reports for your fuel type, sorted by price, then a check of the report time and the pump itself.
Should I compare the cheapest product at every station?
No. Compare only the product your vehicle uses and the amount you plan to buy.
