Gas prices in Vernon: check the operator’s listing for practical details

A cheap pin on a Vernon map doesn’t tell you whether the station has the fuel you need, or whether the pumps are open when you’ll get there. We don’t carry live prices. This page shows what you pay in tax in Vernon, where the highways out of town make a full tank sensible, and how to use the station’s own listing to fill the gaps a price map leaves.

What’s in the price at a Vernon pump

Vernon is taxed like most of BC. As of November 2026 the provincial motor fuel tax on gasoline is 14.5¢/L. The extra transit levies only apply in the South Coast region around Vancouver and the Victoria transit area, and the province’s carbon tax ended on 1 April 2025 (BC motor fuel tax rates).

Federally, the 10¢/L excise tax on gasoline is paused until 31 January 2027 and comes back at 5¢/L for February and March (Finance Canada). GST is 5% (CRA).

Vernon, Kelowna and Kamloops all pay the same provincial rate. If a station down the valley is cheaper, it’s the retailer’s price, not a tax boundary. Remember that when you’re weighing up a drive for fuel.

Where Vernon drivers usually fill up

Highway 97 runs south from Vernon toward Kelowna; a 2025 provincial project set out to resurface 28 km of it between Vernon and Oyama. East of the city, Highway 6 climbs the Monashee Pass to 1,189 m on a two-lane rural highway (BC summit elevations).

The Monashee route is where the operator check matters most. Before heading east, fill up in Vernon at a station you’ve confirmed is open and sells your fuel, rather than counting on one along the way that you haven’t checked. From 1 October to 30 April, winter tires or chains are required on most BC routes (BC designated routes). Check DriveBC for conditions too.

Check the operator’s listing for practical details

Price is only part of a Vernon stop. If you need diesel, premium or a late fill, open the operator’s location page before treating a comparison pin as usable. A directory can find a candidate. The station’s own information tells you whether it suits the trip.

Using GasBuddy Vernon results

  1. Use GasBuddy Vernon to shortlist two or three stations in your grade.
  2. Open each operator’s location page, such as the Esso on 32nd Street in the research, to check fuel types, hours and access.
  3. Store hours and pump hours aren’t always the same, so check both if you’ll arrive late.
  4. Compare the payable price only among stations that suit your trip, and confirm it at the pump. Current reports are on the official GasBuddy website.

What Vernon search results show

Esso’s location page identifies a station at 3400 32nd Street in Vernon. This is a location example, not a cheapest-price recommendation. See the referenced page. Checked 4 November 2026; recheck the page before relying on it.

Vernon worked example: is the extra drive worth it?

This is an invented comparison, not a quoted Vernon price. Say you’re filling 50 litres before a trip east, a station on the far side of town is 6 cents per litre cheaper, and reaching it adds 12 km at 8 L/100 km, with fuel at an illustrative C$1.60/L.

ItemCalculationResult
Gross saving50 × 6/100C$3.00
Extra driving fuel cost12 extra km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litreC$1.54
Net saving before time and other costsGross saving − extra fuelC$1.46

The detour uses about half the saving. If the closer station is confirmed open and has your fuel, it’s usually the better buy before a mountain drive. Run your own figures in the trip fuel cost calculator.

Does a station’s store opening time guarantee fuel access?

Not necessarily. Check the fuel-specific information, and confirm any access restriction that matters for your visit.

Should I fill up in Vernon before driving the Monashee Pass?

It’s a sensible habit. Highway 6 east of Vernon is a two-lane mountain road over a 1,189 m pass, and winter conditions can slow you down. Leave with a comfortable margin from a station you’ve confirmed is open.
