Gas prices in Chilliwack: keep estimates out of a ranked shortlist

Chilliwack price lists often mix real station reports with area estimates, and the estimates can look like a tie for cheapest when nobody has actually checked. We don’t publish live prices. Below is how to tell the two apart, what tax a Chilliwack litre carries compared with Abbotsford and Metro Vancouver, and how to judge a cross-town or out-of-town fill.

What’s in the price at a Chilliwack pump

Chilliwack is one of the six member municipalities of the Fraser Valley Regional District, together with Abbotsford, Mission, Hope, Kent and Harrison Hot Springs. None of them is in the TransLink service region, which the province says ends at Langley, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

That gives a Chilliwack litre of regular gas, as of November 2026:

  • B.C. motor fuel tax: 14.50¢/L, the “rest of B.C.” rate (7.75¢ general revenue plus 6.75¢ for the BC Transportation Financing Authority). Metro Vancouver stations pay 27.00¢.
  • B.C. carbon tax: none. It was eliminated on 1 April 2025.
  • Federal excise tax: none for now. Ottawa has suspended it until 31 January 2027, with 5¢/L planned for February and March 2027 and the full 10¢/L from 1 April 2027.
  • GST: 5%, applied to the price including the taxes above.

The takeaway: Chilliwack, Abbotsford and Hope all sit on the same provincial tax rate. When one of them is cheaper than another, that’s local competition and timing, not tax. The real tax step is at the Langley–Abbotsford line, about 12.5¢ a litre before GST.

Where Chilliwack drivers usually fill up

Highway 1 passes Chilliwack on the Chilliwack Bypass, so for through traffic the convenient stops are the ones close to an interchange. The province’s Highway 1 widening program runs from 216th Street in Langley through to Chilliwack, with the Abbotsford sections under construction into 2031, so a trip west for fuel may take longer than it used to.

If you’re starting from home rather than passing through, the reverse applies: a station on your usual streets can beat a freeway stop that’s a few cents cheaper, because the map distance hides the loop out and back.

Keep estimates out of a ranked shortlist

Build your Chilliwack shortlist in two groups: stations with a usable, recent observation, and stations whose price still needs checking. Don’t sort a regional estimate next to a reported price as if they were equally certain. One price page returned for Chilliwack is clearly labelled as estimates, alongside station directories (checked 4 November 2026; recheck before relying on it). Estimates are fine for budgeting. They can’t pick a winner.

Using GasBuddy Chilliwack results

  1. Sort GasBuddy Chilliwack results into “recent reported price” and “estimated or missing”. Rank only the first group.
  2. Keep the report time next to every price you note.
  3. Use the second group as fallback places to check if they’re already on your route.
  4. Compare the same grade. If you need premium or diesel, check the report time for that grade specifically, not just regular.

For current reports, start on the official GasBuddy website, and believe the pump over the app if they disagree.

Chilliwack worked example: is the extra drive worth it?

This is an invented comparison to show the arithmetic, not a quoted Chilliwack price. Assume you will buy 45 litres and the alternative is 5 cents per litre cheaper.

ItemCalculationResult
Gross saving45 × 5/100C$2.25
Extra driving fuel cost10 extra km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litreC$1.28
Net saving before time and other costsGross saving − extra fuelC$0.97

The extra 10 km swallows 57% of the C$2.25 saving, leaving 97 cents before your time. A station already on your route is probably the better choice. Rerun it in the trip fuel cost calculator.

Is gas cheaper in Abbotsford or Chilliwack?

The tax is identical, so neither city has a built-in edge. On any given day one may post lower prices than the other, which is why it’s worth checking fresh reports for both when you’re driving between them anyway. Driving from Chilliwack to Abbotsford just for fuel rarely pays unless the gap is large.

Is there a Costco gas station in Chilliwack?

Costco’s list of B.C. warehouses doesn’t include Chilliwack (checked 4 November 2026). The nearest one listed is in Abbotsford at 1127 Sumas Way, whose page includes a gas station. Our Costco gas price guide explains how to weigh a membership pump against an ordinary one.

What if every displayed price is an estimate?

Pick a convenient station to check, or use a service with current reports. Don’t build a cheapest-station ranking out of identical estimated values.
