Gas prices in Brandon, Manitoba: avoid a same-name city mismatch

Type “gas prices Brandon” into a search box and you’ll get Brandon, Florida, Brandon, Mississippi and Brandon, South Dakota mixed in with the Manitoba city. This page is about Brandon, MB. We don’t show live prices; we help you filter out the wrong Brandon, understand the taxes in a Manitoba litre, and decide whether stopping here or further down the Trans-Canada makes more sense.

Avoid a same-name city mismatch

Search engines and price apps often guess which Brandon you mean, and the US towns are well represented in autocomplete. Before trusting any number, check two things: the station address says Manitoba (MB), and the price is in Canadian cents per litre. A US price in dollars per gallon isn’t comparable at all without converting both volume and currency. If you ever need to compare across the border, use our fuel price converter.

The taxes in a Brandon litre

As of November 2026, a litre of gasoline in Brandon carries:

  • Manitoba fuel tax of 12.5¢ per litre, the rate in force since 1 January 2025 (Manitoba Finance; news release).
  • No federal excise tax for the moment. Ottawa’s 10¢/L excise tax has been suspended since 20 April 2026 and stays suspended until 31 January 2027, then returns at 5¢/L from 1 February and 10¢/L from 1 April 2027 (Finance Canada).
  • No carbon charge since 1 April 2025 (Finance Canada).
  • 5% GST on the total, with no provincial sales tax on fuel (NRCan).

Brandon and Winnipeg pay exactly the same taxes, so a difference between the two cities comes from retail pricing, not from government.

Manitoba vs Saskatchewan on the Trans-Canada

Brandon sits roughly 120 km east of the Saskatchewan border and about 214 km west of Winnipeg (Wikipedia), so it’s a natural stop on a westbound or eastbound run. On tax alone, Manitoba is cheaper: 12.5¢ per litre versus Saskatchewan’s 15¢ (Saskatchewan eTax Services), a 2.5¢ gap before GST.

Don’t count on seeing that full gap right at the border, though. Saskatchewan’s Fuel Competition Assistance Program helps service stations within 56 km of their nearest Manitoba or Alberta competitor (Saskatchewan eTax Services), which exists precisely because of that tax difference. If you’re heading west, filling in Brandon is a sensible default; compare real posted prices before assuming it’s always cheaper.

Where Brandon drivers usually fill up

At Brandon, the Trans-Canada (PTH 1) shares a short stretch with PTH 10, between 18th Street (PTH 10 south) and the John Bracken Highway (PTH 10 north). The old Trans-Canada alignment through town, PTH 1A, uses Victoria Avenue and 1st Street.

For through-travellers, that means a choice: a station right at your highway junction is the quickest stop, while a station on Victoria Avenue or 18th Street adds a few kilometres in and out. For locals, the stations along your usual 18th Street or Victoria Avenue route are the ones worth comparing.

Using GasBuddy Brandon results

  1. Search “Brandon, MB” or a Brandon postal code rather than the city name alone.
  2. Scan the addresses: every result should say Manitoba. Delete any US result from your shortlist straight away.
  3. Separate area estimates from individual station reports; only a recent station report tells you where to stop.
  4. If you’re on the highway, prefer a station close to the Trans-Canada unless an in-town price is clearly lower and recent.
  5. Get the latest reports from the official GasBuddy website or app; the price on the pump is what you’ll actually pay.

Brandon worked example: is the extra drive worth it?

This is an invented comparison, not a quoted Brandon price. You’re on the Trans-Canada, buying 40 litres, and a station in town is 7 cents per litre cheaper than the one at your exit, but getting there and back adds 8 km.

ItemCalculationResult
Gross saving40 × 7/100C$2.80
Extra driving fuel cost8 extra km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litreC$1.02
Net saving before time and other costsGross saving − extra fuelC$1.78

About a third of the saving goes on the detour, so you keep roughly C$1.78, minus the 10 or 15 minutes of town traffic. A reasonable trade if you also need food or a break; marginal if you’re just passing through. Rerun it with your own numbers in the trip fuel cost calculator.

Why does GasBuddy Brandon show Florida stations?

Because the name alone matches several US Brandons, and an app may default to one of them or to wherever you’re standing. Add “MB” or use a postal code.

Is gas cheaper in Manitoba or Saskatchewan?

Manitoba’s provincial fuel tax is 2.5¢ per litre lower (12.5¢ against 15¢). Pump prices also reflect each station’s own costs and competition, and Saskatchewan’s border assistance program narrows the gap near the line.
