Gas prices in Burnaby: treat an empty ranking honestly
Sometimes a Burnaby price list has stations but no recent reports, and that’s a gap, not a cheap price. We don’t post live numbers either. What this page gives you is the context: Burnaby pays exactly the same fuel tax as Vancouver and the rest of Metro Vancouver, so any difference you see between stations comes down to the stations themselves, the roads they sit on and how fresh the report is.
What’s in the price at a Burnaby pump
Burnaby is a Metro Vancouver member, and TransLink’s funding covers the whole Metro Vancouver region. So, as of November 2026, every Burnaby station pays the Vancouver-area motor fuel tax of 27.00¢ a litre on regular gasoline, 18.50¢ of which goes to TransLink.
The rest of the stack is the same everywhere in B.C.: no provincial carbon tax since 1 April 2025, no federal excise tax while it’s suspended until 31 January 2027, and 5% GST on the total.
What that means in practice: driving from Burnaby into Vancouver, New Westminster or Coquitlam won’t change your tax bill by a cent. You’d have to go east of Langley, into Abbotsford, before the TransLink portion drops off, and that’s a long way to drive for fuel alone.
Where Burnaby drivers usually fill up
Burnaby’s stations cluster on a few through-routes, and which one you’re already on matters more than which station is a few cents cheaper.
- Highway 1 crosses the city between Vancouver and Coquitlam. Getting off and back on for fuel can add more distance than the map suggests.
- Kingsway runs diagonally through Burnaby and is the main commercial spine of Metrotown, becoming 12th Street at the New Westminster border. It’s a city street, so each extra stop means lights and turns, not a quick exit ramp.
- Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) runs east through Burnaby into Coquitlam.
Treat an empty ranking honestly
If a Burnaby directory lists stations but has no current reports, it hasn’t found a current cheapest station. Use it to pick a convenient place to check, and leave the missing price missing. One Burnaby comparison page said outright that no current ranking was available when it had no current reports (checked 4 November 2026; recheck before relying on it). That’s the honest answer. Plugging in an old minimum to fill the gap makes a tidy list that sends you to the wrong place.
Using GasBuddy Burnaby results
- Search by neighbourhood or the road you’ll be on (Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed), not all of Burnaby at once.
- Split the list: stations with a recent price, and stations with no price yet. Rank only the first group.
- A missing report doesn’t mean a station is closed or out of fuel. It just means nobody has posted lately.
- Pick a convenient candidate on your route, then confirm the pump price on arrival and compare it with any fresh report in the same grade.
The official GasBuddy website is the place to start for current reports.
Burnaby worked example: is the extra drive worth it?
This is an invented comparison to show the arithmetic, not a quoted Burnaby price. Assume you will buy 35 litres and the alternative is 5 cents per litre cheaper.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Gross saving | 35 × 5/100 | C$1.75 |
| Extra driving fuel cost | 6 extra km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litre | C$0.77 |
| Net saving before time and other costs | Gross saving − extra fuel | C$0.98 |
The extra driving eats 44% of the C$1.75 saving and leaves 98 cents. If the detour means sitting in rush-hour traffic, that may not cover your time. Try your own numbers in the trip fuel cost calculator.
Is there a Costco gas station in Burnaby?
Not according to Costco. Its pages for the Brighton Avenue and Still Creek Drive warehouses don’t list a gas station (checked 4 November 2026). The closest Costco locations that do list one are Port Coquitlam (2370 Ottawa Street) and Langley (20499 64 Avenue). Whether either is worth the drive depends on the maths above; see our Costco gas price guide too.
Can anyone tell me Burnaby gas prices for tomorrow?
Not with certainty, and we don’t try. Some sites publish next-day calls; Gas Wizard, for example, posts a prediction for Vancouver. Since Burnaby shares Vancouver’s tax rate, a Vancouver forecast is a reasonable rough guide, but individual stations can still move on their own.
Does no current report mean a station is closed?
No. Data availability and operating status are separate questions. Check opening hours and fuel availability with the operator.
