Gas prices in Aldergrove: the last stop inside the TransLink tax area
Aldergrove sits right at the edge of the Metro Vancouver fuel tax zone, a short drive from Abbotsford pumps that don’t charge it. We can’t show you today’s prices, but we can explain how big that tax gap really is, when it’s worth crossing the line for, and why some fuel sites on an Aldergrove map aren’t open to you at all.
What’s in the price at an Aldergrove pump
Aldergrove isn’t a separate municipality. It’s one of the communities of the Township of Langley, alongside Fort Langley, Murrayville, Walnut Grove and others, and the Township is a member of Metro Vancouver. The province’s description of the TransLink fuel tax region runs east to and including Langley, so Aldergrove stations collect the full Vancouver-area rate. Abbotsford, next door, is in the Fraser Valley Regional District and doesn’t.
As of November 2026, B.C. motor fuel tax on regular gasoline is 27.00¢/L in Aldergrove (1.75¢ general, 6.75¢ BCTFA, 18.50¢ TransLink) and 14.50¢/L in Abbotsford. B.C.’s carbon tax has been zero since 1 April 2025, and the federal excise tax is suspended until 31 January 2027. Both sides pay 5% GST, which applies on top of the road taxes.
That puts the tax difference at 12.5¢ a litre, roughly 13.1¢ with GST. One detail helps here: the regional tax depends on where you buy the fuel, not where you burn it. If you’re already driving to Abbotsford, filling there is perfectly normal. Just remember the tax gap is room for a lower price, not a guarantee of one.
Where Aldergrove drivers usually fill up
Two roads do most of the work. The Fraser Highway runs through Aldergrove between Murrayville and Abbotsford’s Clearbrook area. Highway 13 runs south from Highway 1 (exit 73, signed for 264 Street) to the Aldergrove–Lynden border crossing.
Plan for roadwork on Highway 1. The province is replacing the 264th Street cloverleaf with a diverging diamond interchange as part of the 264th Street to Mt. Lehman Road widening, which it expects to finish in 2029. A cheap station on the far side of a work zone may cost you more in time than it saves.
Separate public retail from cardlock listings
Aldergrove searches turn up commercial fuel sites as well as ordinary gas stations. Before you count a candidate, check how it sells fuel. A cardlock site or a commercial directory entry isn’t proof that anyone can pull in and pay with a regular card. The search results for this guide included a Co-op cardlock location guide alongside general lookup help (checked 4 November 2026; recheck before relying on it). Treat cardlocks as off the list unless you hold the right account.
Using GasBuddy Aldergrove results
- Drop anything that isn’t a public retail station that accepts your vehicle and payment method.
- Check the municipality in each address. A Langley-labelled search can include Aldergrove, and an Aldergrove search can pull in Abbotsford stations. Those carry different taxes, so a gap between them isn’t a mistake.
- Compare the same grade and the report time.
- If a Langley or Abbotsford station fits your route better, compare it openly with the extra distance counted.
Current reports are on the official GasBuddy website. Confirm the number on the pump before you lift the nozzle.
Aldergrove worked example: is the drive into Abbotsford worth it?
This is an invented comparison to show the arithmetic, not a quoted price. Assume you will buy 45 litres, an Abbotsford station is 10 cents per litre cheaper than your Aldergrove option, and getting there and back adds 12 km.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Gross saving | 45 × 10/100 | C$4.50 |
| Extra driving fuel cost | 12 extra km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litre | C$1.54 |
| Net saving before time and other costs | Gross saving − extra fuel | C$2.96 |
Here the extra driving uses about a third of the saving and leaves C$2.96 before your time. With a smaller gap, say 3¢, the same trip would barely break even. Run your own numbers in the trip fuel cost calculator.
Is gas cheaper in Aldergrove or Abbotsford?
Abbotsford stations pay about 13¢ a litre less in tax (GST included), so they often have room to post lower prices. Whether they do on a particular day is down to the stations, so check current reports for both before you decide.
Can I use every fuel location on a map?
No. Confirm public access, the fuel grade and payment eligibility before you treat a commercial or cardlock site as an alternative.
Is it worth filling up in Lynden?
Only after a fair conversion. Washington prices are in U.S. dollars per U.S. gallon (3.785 L), so use the fuel price converter with your card’s real exchange rate, then count fees and the line. CBSA lists Aldergrove crossing wait times alongside the others.
