Gas prices in Oakville: turn a price difference into a fill-up saving
Oakville price lists often show stations within a few cents of each other. Is 3 cents a litre worth crossing town for? It depends almost entirely on how much fuel you’re buying. We don’t show live prices; this page turns those small gaps into dollars so you can decide in a few seconds.
Turn a price difference into a fill-up saving
Multiply the gap by the litres you’ll actually buy, not your tank size. Two cents a litre on a 20-litre top-up is 40 cents. Six cents a litre on a 45-litre fill is C$2.70. A nearly full tank makes any price advantage small, so the time to chase a cheaper station is when you’re close to empty and filling up properly.
What’s in the price at an Oakville pump
Oakville’s tax bill per litre is the same as the rest of Ontario, so it doesn’t explain why one Oakville station is cheaper than another. As of November 2026, the posted price includes Ontario’s 9.0¢-per-litre gasoline tax (Ontario Ministry of Finance) and 13% HST (CRA), with HST calculated after the per-litre taxes (NRCan). There’s no federal excise tax at the moment: Bill C-38 suspended it to 31 January 2027, after which it’s 5¢ a litre until 31 March and the full 10¢ from 1 April 2027 (Finance Canada). The consumer carbon charge ended on 1 April 2025 (Finance Canada).
In practice: if you keep a fuel logbook, expect a step up in February 2027 and another in April that has nothing to do with Oakville stations.
Where Oakville drivers usually fill up
Most Oakville fill-ups happen on the way somewhere, so the cheapest useful station is usually one on your normal route. Two local points worth knowing:
- Tolls. Highway 407 ETR’s tolled zones run from the QEW east to Brock Road; tolls apply by zone and vehicle class, billed by plate if you have no transponder (407 ETR rates). Don’t use the 407 to reach a cheaper station.
- Costco. There’s no Costco gas bar in Oakville yet. A Costco store with a gas bar is planned at 3471 Wyecroft Rd, with the mayor pointing to a likely fall 2027 opening (Canadian Grocer, February 2026). Until then, a Costco fill means driving to another city, which is only worth counting if you’re going there anyway. See our Costco gas guide.
Using GasBuddy Oakville results
- Check it’s Oakville, Ontario. Autocomplete also suggests Oakville, Missouri; US results will be in dollars per gallon.
- Use a small search radius first. People search “gas prices Oakville within 1.6 km” for a reason: when stations are this close in price, the nearest decent option usually wins.
- Multiply each gap by the litres you’ll buy, then subtract the extra driving.
- Compare the same grade with recent report times. Oakville results include both station-level comparisons and local operator listings (example listing, checked 4 November 2026; recheck before relying on it).
- Confirm at the pump. For current reports, start on the official GasBuddy website.
Oakville worked example: full fill versus top-up
This is a hypothetical comparison, not a quoted Oakville price. A station 6 cents per litre cheaper adds 10 km of driving. Your car uses 8 L/100 km and fuel costs C$1.60 per litre.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Extra driving fuel cost (both cases) | 10 km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litre | C$1.28 |
| Full fill: gross saving on 45 L | 45 × 6/100 | C$2.70 |
| Full fill: net saving | C$2.70 − C$1.28 | C$1.42 |
| Top-up: gross saving on 20 L | 20 × 6/100 | C$1.20 |
| Top-up: net saving | C$1.20 − C$1.28 | −C$0.08 |
Same station, same price gap. On a full fill you keep C$1.42 (the detour uses 47% of the saving). On a top-up you lose 8 cents. Try your own fill size in the trip fuel cost calculator.
Will Oakville gas prices go up tomorrow?
We can’t forecast prices. Gas Wizard includes Oakville in its next-day predictions (Gas Wizard), which are based on wholesale price analysis by Dan McTeague of Canadians for Affordable Energy (about). If a rise is forecast and you’re already low, filling today may help; if you’re nearly full, the saving is small either way.
Should I use tank capacity in the saving calculation?
No. Use the amount you expect to buy. Tank capacity overstates the saving whenever the tank isn’t empty.
