Gas prices in Oshawa: check the numbers before you trust the summary
We don’t publish live Oshawa prices. What we can do is help you spot a cheap fill that’s real: a recent report, in your grade, at a station you’d pass anyway. In Oshawa that also means being wary of summary pages whose figures don’t add up, and knowing which highways now cost you nothing extra to use.
What’s in the price at an Oshawa pump
Every Oshawa station works under the same tax rules, so tax never explains a gap between two stations in town. As of November 2026:
- Ontario gasoline tax: 9.0 cents a litre on unleaded, built into the posted price rather than shown on your receipt (Ontario Ministry of Finance). The 2025 Ontario Budget set out to keep that 9-cent rate permanently.
- Federal excise tax: normally 10 cents a litre, but suspended at 0 cents since 20 April 2026 and, under the federal extension, staying at zero until 31 January 2027. Finance Canada says it would return at 5 cents from 1 February 2027 and the full 10 cents from 1 April 2027 (Department of Finance Canada).
- HST: 13% in Ontario (Canada Revenue Agency), charged on the whole price, fixed fuel taxes included (Natural Resources Canada).
- No consumer carbon charge: the federal fuel charge ended on 1 April 2025 (Department of Finance Canada).
The excise schedule matters if you compare Oshawa prices across months. A receipt from before 20 April 2026 included 10 cents a litre of federal tax that today’s price doesn’t, and the scheduled February and April 2027 increases will push posted prices up regardless of what any Oshawa station does.
Where Oshawa drivers usually fill up
Oshawa has two Costco warehouses, and both list a gas station: the south store at 130 Ritson Road North and the north store at 100 Windfields Farm Drive East. They’re priced separately, so don’t assume one matches the other. Costco fuel also needs a membership; our Costco gas price guide explains what to check before you factor it in.
North-south position matters more than you might expect. Since 1 June 2025 the provincially owned Highway 407 East between Brock Road and Highway 35/115 has been toll-free (Town of Whitby; 2025 Ontario Budget). That stretch runs across north Durham, so a north Oshawa stop on a 407 trip no longer carries a toll penalty. The province had already removed tolls on Highways 412 and 418 (same budget page). Check your full route, though: the removal applied only to the provincially owned 407 East.
Reject a summary whose numbers don’t agree
When we researched this page, one Oshawa price page showed an average lower than its own minimum (canadagasprice.com Oshawa page, checked 4 November 2026; recheck the live page). That can’t happen when both figures come from the same set of prices, so it points to mixed samples, mixed grades or stale page elements, not to an amazing deal.
If a summary contradicts itself, stop using it and open the individual station reports. Every number you act on should have a clear grade, a timestamp and a station behind it.
Ontario’s weekly fuel price survey doesn’t publish a separate Oshawa figure. Its nearest markets are Toronto East and Peterborough (dataset), and neither is Oshawa, so treat them as background only.
Using GasBuddy Oshawa results
- Set the search to where you’ll actually stop: south Oshawa near the 401, or north Oshawa near the 407. A city-wide list mixes the two.
- Compare one grade only. If a premium report sits among regular ones, a summary built from both can look wrong.
- Compare report times. A low price from yesterday morning is weaker evidence than a slightly higher one from an hour ago.
- If you’re including a Costco, compare it with the other Costco and with non-membership stations separately.
- Confirm on the pump before you fill. For current reports, start on the official GasBuddy website.
Oshawa worked example: is the extra drive worth it?
This is an invented comparison to show the arithmetic, not a quoted Oshawa price. Say you’ll buy 50 litres and the other station is 4 cents per litre cheaper, but reaching it adds 12 km.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Gross saving | 50 × 4/100 | C$2.00 |
| Extra driving fuel cost | 12 extra km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litre | C$1.54 |
| Net saving before time and other costs | Gross saving − extra fuel | C$0.46 |
The extra driving eats 77% of the C$2.00 saving and leaves 46 cents before your time. Crossing between south and north Oshawa just for fuel can easily cost that much. Try your own numbers in the trip fuel cost calculator.
Can the average be lower than the minimum?
Not if both describe the same set of prices. If you see it, the page is probably mixing samples, grades or update times. Go to the station-level reports instead.
Can you tell me Oshawa gas prices for tomorrow?
No, and we won’t guess. Some sites publish next-day forecasts for Ontario, but a forecast isn’t a pump price. Use one to decide whether to top up today; choose the station on recent reports.
