Gas prices in Kingston, Ontario: check the province before trusting a result
There are a lot of Kingstons. Search suggestions mix Kingston, Ontario with Kingston, New York and Kingston, Nova Scotia, and our own first search for this guide returned listings for Kingston, Jamaica. So step one is making sure you’re looking at the right city. Step two, once you are, is the Cataraqui River: which side of it a station sits on can matter more than its price.
Check the province before trusting a result
Before you compare anything, confirm three things: the addresses are in Ontario, the prices are in cents per litre, and the postal codes start with K. A neat, detailed station list is useless if it’s for Kingston, NY, where prices are in US dollars per gallon. A follow-up search with “Ontario” added returned a Kingston directory with street-level reports (example listing, checked 4 November 2026; recheck before relying on it).
What’s in the price at a Kingston pump
Kingston’s taxes are the same as anywhere else in Ontario, so they won’t explain a gap between two Kingston stations. As of November 2026, a litre of regular carries Ontario’s 9.0¢ gasoline tax (Ontario Ministry of Finance) and 13% HST (CRA), with HST calculated on a price that already includes the per-litre taxes (NRCan). The federal excise tax is currently zero: it’s suspended until 31 January 2027, then charged at 5¢ until the end of March and 10¢ from 1 April 2027 (Finance Canada). The consumer carbon charge was removed on 1 April 2025 (Finance Canada).

Crossing the Cataraqui: plan your fuel stop around it
Kingston’s east end and the rest of the city are separated by the Cataraqui River, and that shapes fuel trips.
- Waaban Crossing, a 1.2 km bridge that opened in December 2022, links to Gore Road on the east bank and gives drivers an alternative to the LaSalle Causeway and Highway 401 (Global News).
- The LaSalle Causeway closes fully to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians on scheduled marine-opening days in 2026, typically from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The last listed closure this year is Sunday, 15 November 2026 (Public Services and Procurement Canada).
So a “cheap” station across the river can turn into a much longer drive on a closure day. If you live on one side, compare stations on that side first.
One more Kingston-specific point: “GasBuddy Kingston Costco” is a common search, but Costco’s Kingston warehouse page (1015 Centennial Dr) doesn’t list a gas station among its services (Costco Kingston). Don’t build a fuel plan around it.
Using GasBuddy Kingston results
- Confirm it’s Kingston, Ontario. Look for Ontario addresses and cents-per-litre prices. If the units or currency look odd, you’re in the wrong Kingston.
- Set the search on your side of the river. People often search “GasBuddy Kingston Highway 15” or a single brand; that’s the right idea. Search where you’ll be, not the city centre.
- Compare the same grade with similar report ages. A cheap price reported early yesterday may be gone.
- Check the causeway schedule if your route uses it, especially on Sundays until mid-November.
- Confirm at the pump. For current reports, start on the official GasBuddy website.
Kingston worked example: normal day versus causeway closure
This is a hypothetical comparison, not a quoted Kingston, Ontario price. You’ll buy 30 litres; a station across the river is 5 cents per litre cheaper. On a normal day it adds 4 km. On a closure day, the detour (assumed for this example) grows to 14 km.
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Gross saving | 30 × 5/100 | C$1.50 |
| Normal day: extra driving fuel cost | 4 km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litre | C$0.51 |
| Normal day: net saving | C$1.50 − C$0.51 | C$0.99 |
| Closure day: extra driving fuel cost | 14 km × 8 L/100 km ÷ 100 × C$1.60 per litre | C$1.79 |
| Closure day: net saving | C$1.50 − C$1.79 | −C$0.29 |
On a normal day the cheaper station leaves you about a dollar ahead. On a closure day you lose money before even counting your time. Run your own numbers in the trip fuel cost calculator.
Will Kingston gas prices go up tomorrow?
We don’t make predictions. If you want one, Kingston is on Gas Wizard’s list of next-day forecast cities (Gas Wizard), and Dan McTeague of Canadians for Affordable Energy does the wholesale price forecasting behind it (about). A forecast tells you which way the market is leaning; individual Kingston stations can still do their own thing.
Why does this page keep saying “Ontario”?
Because “Kingston” alone doesn’t tell a search engine, or GasBuddy, which Kingston you mean. Adding the province is the quickest way to get the right results.
